Arlington Heights shopping area straddles the intersection of Mass Ave and Park Ave (marked by "X"). It works as a village center with many Smart Growth attributes. The buildings are small in scale and oriented to pedestrians. This allows one to park on the street and walk to several destinations: Post Office, Bakery, dry cleaners, restaurants, and convenience stores. ![]() Walgreen (above) is located outside the perimeter of the village center. Walgreen and similar auto-accessible land uses with large parking lots do not disrupt the scale, intimacy and pedestrian access which characterize the village center. ![]() A customer at the Farmers' Market. |
